Calgary, Alberta, November 11, 2008 – Orcrist Bio Inc. announced today that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has approved the issuance of a patent relating to the company's ORC-HYC750 drug candidate for the treatment of chemotherapy-related blood cell depletion and other underserved clinical indications. The patent, entitled "Methods for Cell Mobilization Using In Vivo Treatment with Hyaluronan (HA)“, describes the use of various fragments of hyaluronic acid to induce mobilization of stem cells, and provide a general increase in immune responsiveness through augmenting levels of certain circulating cells of the immune system. The patent provides an additional layer of protection to the technology acquired by Orcrist under an exclusive license agreement with the University of Alberta, and also extends the life of this promising technology. Orcrist is preparing to embark on a Phase I clinical study for ORC-HYC750 in early 2009. For further information, please see the article on StemCellPatents.com.
